An (early) June Brain Declutter
Yay she’s overstimulated again! Instead this time you can add in a side of burnout to go along with it. My friends, I am truly tired. Weary even. Not to sound like your TikTok feed, but this country and all of the nonsense that comes with living here has completely worn me down. I’m about 1 more crisis away from shaving my head, changing my name, and moving to Mallorca to make the worst house music the world has ever heard. So much has happened since the last declutter and I haven’t begun to process any of it. However, I realize that not having time to decompress without any plans getting in the way is really not good for me. As much as I like to pretend I’m better off always doing something, I’ve come to realize that I desperately need time to just be still. I also need to turn my phone off every now and then. So with that being said, let’s get to decluttering.
Travel Burnout
This one is hard. I feel lucky and grateful that I’ve gotten to go so many places this year. It is so expensive and difficult to do so when really, it could all be so simple. I feel awkward complaining about it and make no mistake, I AM about to complain. Maybe whine even. I’ve come to realize that airports are designed to be as overwhelming and frustrating as possible and I am extremely susceptible to this. If is isn’t being bombarded with the screaming fellow travelers having meltdowns about missed flights, it’s watching the overworked employees deal with them. If it isn’t the TSA whose parameters change based on a whim, it’s the aggressive people who take their anger out on you for taking too long to remove your shoes. We’ve stripped this country of our beautiful railway system so the default for cross country travel is flying. Why then does it have to suck for everyone? Not to mention, I’m reminded of the greed of the airlines companies every time I try to fit comfortable in one of those seats. This is one industry we should be begging to be reformed but it’s so low down on the priority list that I doubt we’ll see any improvements anytime soon.
The End of Live Music
There are so many acts on tour right now. Too many. Seriously you do not need to go on tour every other year and if you do then the economics of making music are truly cooked. Not to mention, everyone’s tickets are insanely expensive. There was once a time you could see an up and coming act for $30 to $50 at the most. Now it seems that $100 is the cheapest you can get away with for a lot of acts. I don’t think they realize that as we have less money to spend even on food or movie tickets (I have something in the works about this), concerts will be the first thing on the chopping block. We will grow to deprioritize live music, which means another form of understanding our culture and ourselves will be gone. What happened to that Ticketmaster lawsuit? If nothing else you gotta get them for that data breach, right?
Event Burnout
The other day, I looked at my calendar for the next 3 months and began to cry. Do with that information as you will.
Burnout, Burnout
In all seriousness I have decided (read: have been convinced) to seek other options for dealing with well… everything. I hate feeling powerless about situations I find myself in so even having a plan of attack really helps immensely. That and talking to the people I love. Can’t beat that.
The Cost of Food is Miserably High
If you’re like me and have entirely too much to do on an average day and have grown less imaginative when it comes to cooking, you probably eat some kind of frozen food. For me, I am partial to any sort of chicken chunks or popcorn chicken and I usually seek them out at the store. Well, a few months ago now I tried some Costco chicken chunks and thought ‘Damn that’s good” so I went to get some for myself. Y’all… this one bag of chicken chunks, the one bag, is $16.99. $16.99 USD! Not even Simoleans! This is just another ridiculous example of price gouging on food run amok. You can’t even eat chicken for cheap. How is everyone managing the cost of food today? Imagine buy fruits and vegetables, too. It’s time for guerrilla community farms I’ve had enough!
