I have no foreword.
January is usually a month of stress and change for me because I’m usually moving or starting a new job but this January has just been relentless. Not to mention my birthday is approaching and I’m contending with getting further into my late 20s. While this should be something to celebrate, I can’t help but feel weird about it. Not getting old necessarily but losing youth. In our society, youth is less of a designation and more of a currency so I think it’s natural to want to minimize the ways in which you have less. I’m definitely going work on how I see the aging process in the future but I’d also like our country to give us things to actually look forward to as we age.
The “post Summer 2020 Black representation initiatives” have clearly come to an end because we’ve have seen a string of high profile cancelations of shows by Black creatives. From “Rap Sh!t” to “Ziwe” to “Kindred”, studios are bringing the axe down on black creatives’ work and I would be lying to you if I said I was surprised. None of these studios made any real effort to push these shows in popularity, slashing advertising dollars and refusing to undergo award campaigns for their stars. Not to mention, the Zaslav method of streaming and management that’s taking the industry by storm. Guess they figured we may be headed toward a MAGA republic and decided to cut their losses?
Oh yeah and just thinking about the election makes me seriously itchy. Not a fan. So many people have expressed to me that they expect me to vote. That I NEED to vote. That this is the most important election that I will ever vote in EVER. To that I say, okay. Sure. I’ve never missed an election so no point in starting now, right? I keep voting and my rights keep disappearing and the world keeps burning but the world keeps turning as it should. Vote on that Tuesday and then…?
In addition to student loans, we should also do away with credit scores. it’s completely barbaric.
Excellent read. Please Vote cause the alternative is worse
