What Whitney Wants To Say #5
Happy Wednesday…
I have an issue with the whole “This is Scooter Braun’s karma for what he did to Taylor” refrain coming out of this week’s news of several of his artists leaving his management. Mainly because there are whispers of “unsavory” truths to be revealed about him in the coming days and to me that indicates that there are probably victims of some kind. I don’t think calling potential abuses of his being exposed a “downfall” akin to being canceled on social media for undisclosed product ads, is appropriate. In fact, the rolling up of online “offenses” into one big “person bad” list ends up minimizing the impact that of some pretty heinous actions. It just feels very unserious to me.
I also take issue with celebrities taking inter-personal conflicts and exaggerating them into huge societal dilemmas worthy of some sort of social change. As if we should be marching in the streets because $50 million dollars is a low-ball for you. The falling out you had with your record label is not an indicator of some grand conspiracy meant to destroy you and everyone like you. A shitty company being shitty is not an -ism they are accused with. This is more minimizing of large issues that Hollywood is getting too comfortable with. Not to mention people with curated personas do not make for good spokespeople or advocates.
I cannot believe we’re entering yet another election season. The thought alone makes me nauseous. I don’t know about you guys but I don’t think I can do it again. As a country, we barely survived the last one and I think this election will be the one to do us in. I predict riots after the first debate.
I’m thinking of starting a feature called “Treats and Trinkets” where I discuss the things I love to get and why everyone should try it. Over the course of my 27 years I have developed very particular tastes and I’d love to share them. However, I am not an influencer and I don’t want to turn WWW into that. However, today I had a Honey Citron Iced Tea and I bought Big Bud Press’s “Work Pants” on sale for $35 dollars and I’m very satisfied with how I’m spending my coins.
